Guys, we closed on our first home this week!
(In 26 minutes, I have to add. We had heard horror stories of all day closings and we were so lucky that ours was SO fast!)
We could not be more excited. It has been a whirlwind of events, even though it has only been about 30 days since we starting searching. I wanted to wait and share all the exciting details until the closing happened.
At first glance, the house looks move-in ready. After an inspector came over and told us every small thing wrong, we knew we wanted to make some changes both cosmetic and structural before moving in.
I can’t wait to feature all of the changes and new decor coming your way. If you have forgotten, home posts are around the 15th of every month.
We have been dreaming of our forever home, forever. Who knows if this is our forever home, life is funny that way, but this is our forever right now home. We can’t wait to put our personal touches on this house to help fit our every need.
It has only been 2 days since closing and we already have 6 appointments made for the next few days, so I knew I had to debut the before pictures quickly!
We are so lucky with all of the gorgeous landscaping, unfortunately, the sprinklers aren’t working and it has been hot, hot, hot here. We can’t wait to get someone to come in and shape the bushes and cut the grass, we will be busy watering the plants and hoping they come back to life. Some new mulch and this area is going to be gorgeous, again. I love the storm door and so do our dogs. I’ll put a new wreath up and be good to go. We will put up new sconces around to replace the gold ones. Exterior painting and a new awning will happen eventually, but pretty far down the line.
Our dogs are a little older, so we appreciate the runner on the stairs, even though it isn’t our current style. This will help them (and us!) from slipping down the steps, so it will stay until we decide on a beautiful pattern to replace it.
This dining room is gorgeous. I love all of the natural light from the windows at the front of the house and there is an area perfect for a hutch (or my shelves, until a hutch makes an appearance in my life!) I’m not sure about decor in this room yet, I will probably wait until we have a hutch and then go off of that.
The heart of the home, the kitchen. Ethan and I love to cook and entertain, a lot of time will be spent here, so we want to love it. The cabinets have such gorgeous design and are all soft-closing. We have decided that one of the first things to be done before we move in will be painting these cabinets white. I am hoping that brings out the white in the countertops and we will eventually change the countertops and backsplash down the road. We have a built-in wine fridge and a built-in pantry. I can’t wait to organize it all!
This eating area is perfect space for our current table and chairs and our curtains will work perfectly over the windows. The only thing needed for this space is a rug.
After much back and forth, we decided this will be our TV area. We are going to put the TV on the wall and our current sectional couch in here. Eventually we will get a desk to go in-between the two windows. We can use our current curtains from our living room and the rods from the dining room (which I am patting myself on the back for buying them matching for this very reason) and just purchase a few new panels. We will need a rug as well, but I am going to wait until after we have lived-in this space to see if I like the set up before making that purchase.
Formal Living Room:
I say formal loosely. Our house won’t be super formal, but there won’t be a TV in here. That means we will be removing the corner built-in and painting the other one white. We will need new furniture for this room, but it is the only room and we are having to get rid of a lot of furniture. I count this as a plus. I am considering a camel colored couch, white or tan chairs, black and white throw, and bringing in life with green plants (a fiddle fig tree!), blue and white pottery, and gold bamboo frames with white and black pictures. This will take a little while to accomplish, but will be close to the top of the list, because it is so visible.
This is such a small space that I am excited to have fun with. I will take down this wall paper and replace it with some fun wallpaper, maybe some that looks like tiles, white and black or navy and white. I do like the mirror, so it will stay and the sink will be replaced with a vessel sink and cabinet underneath.
This has a small sink and built-in cabinets, we are going to leave this as is for a while, but will eventually take out the sink and move the connections to the other wall to put in racks for drying clothes.
I love a downstairs master. I am very excited about this. I love that it connects to the bathroom and then the closet. This will hopefully be helpful in keeping our room cleaner, without the spilling of clothes from our currently small closet going into the bedroom. We are going to get rid of our dresser, because we have the built-ins in the closet. We are going to purchase new side tables, so I can have one! And of course, paint and get new carpet.
We are going to get the bathroom and closet painted and new light fixtures to brighten this space up.
Guest Bedroom #1:
This room just needs a new paint job and we are keeping our previous guest bedroom furniture for it.
Guest Bedroom #2:
This room will also be painted and since it is HUGE, we will be putting our current desk in here, with our printer until we get a new desk for the den. All of my cookbooks may live in the built-ins here until I find the perfect spot for them. The furniture will also stay the same in this room.
This has been updated and will just be painted. Eventually we will get new lights and frame the mirror, we will probably do this when we do the master bath.
This is Ethan’s room. It will be painted and then decorated with all of the sports memorabilia you can think of. The furniture will stay the same in this room. We are planning to make a fun transformation of the closet right outside of this room, with glass doors, and wine cellar/racks to store our beer collection.
We fell in love with this room immediately. We have already checked under that green carpet and wood that matches the deck is there! We are getting someone to come out and treat and stain it and possibly the outside deck, so it all matches.
More beautiful landscape that needs to just be shaped with new mulch, eventually we will put a pool back here.
Well that’s it folks. Our new blank space. I can’t wait to decorate it and show you some after pictures in the next coming months!
