I have decided to do sporadic updates on my life here on my blog. Life has been so, so busy, which I love. I promise blogging is on the way back to normal posts and recipes next week! My plan is to do one of these updates every month!
I think it is cool to show my reader’s the other side of me, besides my food likes and dislikes! I hope you enjoy seeing what all I have been up to!
First and foremost, the opening of our business! We opened July 31st and it has been a great whirlwind.
Do you want the backstory? I’ll make it quick. Ethan and I moved to North Carolina from Texas and knew we wanted to start a business, we had been looking, but nothing was clicking. We were throwing around food truck ideas, wedding planning shops, hummus bars, pie shops, we just couldn’t make a decision. We were set up on a friendship blind-date to meet a couple with similar interests. That ended up being the best decision of our life. They were planning a brewery to open, Neuse River Brewing Company. They already had one partner, David Powell. We thought it was so cool and we just could not shake it. When we found out they were looking for another business partner, we asked if they would have us, they agreed.
I have been doing everything under the sun there and loving every moment. I have been bartending (obviously!), janitoring, working at a beer festival, taking photos, cutting herbs and flowers, washing glasses, and talking to our guests (my favorite!) If you are local, be sure to stop by, we are open Thursday & Friday at 5, and Saturday & Sunday at 12. We have great Belgian beers and an IPA and we are kid and dog friendly!

I am also a member of Raleigh Blogging Society. It is so great and there are so many local bloggers that I have loved meeting. Last night, we went to Fly Barre and worked out together. It was so much fun. It was a smaller classroom, which I loved and everyone had their own spot (mat). The instructor was so patient, kind, and most important, motivating.

Afterwards, we went next door to Brixx. Oh my goodness. I don’t know why I haven’t been here before. The pizza was amazing! I had the buffalo chicken pizza, and I will definitely get it again! We had the breadsticks and bruschetta to start. The bruschetta was perfect, grilled bread, fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, balsamic and basil. I am not ready to say goodbye to summer tomatoes.
One last thing, I did recently was visiting The Historic Lassiter Mill Park. It is right in the heart of Raleigh and is beautiful. The weather has been amazing. In the 70’s. We took the dogs and just relaxed, enjoyed the outdoors, and each other. It was perfect.
Have a great weekend, The Barbee Housewife
